How to Monetize Your Online Influence

So you’ve started to gain a following online and you want to take advantage of the platform you have, but what do you actually need to do to start making money?

You see all of these other people monetizing their content and want to do the same because why wouldn’t you want to have the freedom to do what you love and make money by creating content?

Once people start seeing your content, you could just ride the high of a couple of viral posts for a few months, OR you could turn your influence into a full creator business that makes you money.

🚫 Instagram now lets you cancel a Stories upload mid-process

  •  There’s now a button that lets you stop a Story from going live after you’ve hit “Share”.

✂️ You can now create custom stickers from still image posts

  • You’ll be able to cut out elements of still image posts and use them as stickers in Stories and Reels.

  • It will be available on any publicly posted still image post.

  • To create a sticker from a feed post, the creator has to have posted publicly and have enabled permission for other users to create cutouts from their content. ◦ If the post is deleted, you’ll lose your sticker. 

🎵 TikTok is testing an AI song-generation process

  • It will let you generate original music based on text prompts.

  • If it’s expanded to business profiles, it could be a copyright-free way to add soundtracks to your clips.

🙈 Threads has started allowing you to hide share counts on your posts

  • Before, you could only hide the like count

💵 Meta has introduced the Creator Management Tools for agencies in the Meta Business Suite

  • It’s designed to allow agencies and creators to manage their relationship on Facebook by connecting their accounts and granting access to assets and information.

  • For agencies that manage a lot of content creators, they’ll be able to connect with creator’s accounts easier, direct a creator’s page earnings to the agency payout account, and mitigate security risks. 

📁 Threads is working on the ability to save posts

  • They’ve added the option to save posts in the three-dot menu.

📝 Instagram continues to work on the ability to leave notes on friend’s profiles

  • You can only leave notes for followers you follow back.

  • When you leave someone a note, it’s only visible to followers you share in common.

  • Notes will stay on a profile for 3 days unless their removed. 

✔️ Instagram is rolling out the “Add Poll” feature to Posts

  • On one of the accounts that I manage, I was putting together a caption and an option for “Add a Poll” came up. I filled it out, but it did not translate over to the actual post, so it seems there are some kinks to workout.

📱 TikTok adds a new editing tool that will let you add an alternative background to your clips.

  • It’s similar to the green screen effect, but will allow you to change it after you record if you don’t like the look of your background. 

⏱️ TikTok is testing 30 minute uploads

  • It has only been seen by some users in the beta version of the app.

  • This will also include broader monetization potential based on pre and mid roll ads, which they say can be attributed back to the creator. 

👯‍♀️ Instagram launches a test of a new alternative profile option currently called “Flipside”

  • It allows you to choose who can see your profile and create posts that only go to that space. 

  • You’ll be able to visit and view your Flipside as an alternative profile gallery where you can add a new profile name and picture.  ◦ It is another way Instagram is focusing on private sharing. They have found that people prefer to maintain smaller, closer knit communities.

🧾 Instagram rolled out the ability to turn off read receipts in DMs

  • This setting is available in each individual chat.

  • To activate it, you tap on the users’ name, select “Privacy and Safety” and toggle off “Read Receipts”. 

  • You can also turn off read receipts for all users in your “Messages and Story Replies” settings.

💬 Instagram is working on the ability to translate the audio of Reels

  • The text of the audio will be displayed underneath the audio clip

📁 Threads is developing the ability to save posts as drafts

  • If you go to discard a thread it will give you the option to ‘Discard’ or ‘Save draft’.
