The Social Scoop ⤵️

🧠 Instagram Tests New Memories Prompts

  • Instagram’s trying out a new way to prompt users to re-share their old posts, with a ‘Memory’ Story prompt now showing up in some users’ feeds.

  • Once you tap on the Memory story, you’ll then be shown previous stories that you shared around this date.

  • It’s giving users a more direct push to re-share their past stories, which is similar to Facebook’s ‘On this day’ prompts, and could encourage more engagement within the app.

🔎Instagram is testing the ability to Search viewers in the story

  • When viewing your Story slide’s stats, you would be able to see a search bar. Type in there to search who has viewed your Story

❌ TikTok is rolling out a new strikes-based system

  • Creators will accrue strikes as their content is removed. If they then reach a threshold of strikes within either a product feature (like comments or TikTok LIVE), or policy (like bullying or harassment), they will be permanently banned.

  • The company said the threshold will vary depending on the violation and its potential to harm community members.

  • It said, for instance, there may be a lower threshold for violating hateful content policies than there would be for posting low-harm spam.

  • The accumulated strikes will expire from an account’s record after 90 days, but accounts that “accrue a high number of cumulative strikes across policies and features” will be permanently banned.

🎁 Instagram expands access to Reels-focused tipping feature, Gifts

  • The feature, which first began testing last year, allows fans to provide a favorite creator with direct monetary support in the form of themed virtual gifts.

  • The gifts are purchased in the Instagram app using the virtual currency Stars  and can cost anywhere from just 10 stars to several hundred stars (For Instagram Gifts, Stars are only available for purchase directly within the Instagram app as in-app purchases. Users can purchase 45 Stars for $0.99, 140 Stars for $2.99 or 300 for $5.99.).

  • Instagram will then provide you with a revenue share from your reels that received gifts on a monthly basis equal to $.01 USD for every star received from fans.

  • You can see your total and monthly approximate earnings in your Professional Dashboard. You will get paid out when your overall balance reaches $100, including earnings from other monetization programs.

  • Creators in the U.S. will be able to check to see if they’re now eligible to receive Gifts from their Professional Dashboard in settings. If so, they can toggle on the option if they choose.

  • When available, you’ll see the option to “Send Gift” above the creator’s username on a Reel

  • Badges were aimed only at live videos, while Gifts, as of its debut, focused on Reels.
